WR-approved Faculty: Time to Re-certify Your WR Course(s)

Priority registration for Spring 2021 begins October 19 (and for all students it's the following week). This is a friendly reminder to please re-certify your WR courses now if you have not yet done so. [If you have, thank you! There is nothing more you need to do at this time.]

In myMCC, go to Employees > Faculty Essentials > Faculty Tools. "Re-certify Your Writing Intensive Course(s)" is fifth from the bottom of that list. Click here for a direct link [you must be logged into the new myMCC for the link to work]:

Instructions:

  1. Select the academic term for which you are re-certifying [i.e. Spring 2021]
  2. Type the CRN for the class, then choose "Section Lookup"
  3. Follow the rest of the on-screen instructions
  4. Repeat the process for each of your courses (or each section) that needs re-certification

You will receive a confirmation email for each re-certification that you submit. It does take some time for the WR designation to appear on the master schedule, so don't be worried if you don't see it right away.

Once you've re-certified, please check your course information sheet(s) to make sure that it clarifies that the course will be taught as WR. All WR courses should contain a statement on the CIS explaining what it means for students. You are welcomed to use this one if you don't already have one:

This course is Writing Intensive (WR). In WR courses, students have the opportunity to learn course content through formal and informal writing assignments. To find out more about WR courses at MCC, consult your student handbook or visit the Writing Across the Curriculum website at http://www.monroecc.edu/depts/wac.

Not yet a WR-certified faculty member? Your courses might already meet the requirements, or could with some minor redesign. Make it official! Check the criteria and fill out a new WR-course proposal today.
