Invitation to Join the TCC's Book Group for Ijeoma Oluo's "So You Want to Talk about Race?"

In keeping with the TCC's 2020-2021 theme of Committing to Equity-Minded Pedagogy, we (April Daniels and Brian Edelbach) are excited to announce that we're hosting a book group for Ijeoma Oluo's best-selling book, So You Want to Talk About Race?

Oluo, whose work has been published in the New York Times, Washington Post, Elle, and the Guardian, has written a book that "guides readers of all races through subjects ranging from intersectionality and affirmative action to 'model minorities' in an attempt to make the seemingly impossible possible: honest conversations about race and racism, and how they infect almost every aspect of human life."

For those committed to taking part in the book discussion throughout the year, the TCC will have 20 copies of the book to distribute to participants on a first come, first served basis!

Please email Amy Burtner within the next couple of days to request your free copy.

If you wish to participate but are not part of the first 20, please consider purchasing from a Black-owned bookstore, such as through this portal.

We will announce firm meeting dates once books arrive, but we anticipate (we hope!) beginning around mid-October. We will likely meet (via Zoom!) monthly on a Monday, between noon and 1pm.

We want to hear from you! Please let us know what you hope to get out of the book and out of the group discussion. Email Brian Edelbach or April Daniels with your suggestions and questions.
