RBJ Looks at How Area Community Colleges Are Working Through Pandemic

The Feb. 19 issue of the Rochester Business Journal included an article about how area community colleges lately are handling the shift to distance learning, budget challenges, and a decline in enrollment.

Interim President Dr. Douglas was interviewed for the article "Community colleges work through COVID, hope for stimulus relief." Some of the key takeaways include:

-- On the MCC campus community's resilience, teamwork and determination:

"The can-do attitude I experienced here went a long way to meet the challenge after challenge we received."

-- On students' access to technologies as well as basic needs insecurities:

"Last spring, we found out that the digital divide was more like a digital chasm."
Dr. Douglas added that in 2020, the MCC Foundation awarded $177,000 in emergency funds through Dreamkeepers and provided over 700 laptops to eligible students.
