Annual Sexual Harassment Response & Prevention Training for Employees - Deadline is October 9

Sexual harassment response and prevention training must be offered to all employees annually before October 9 and must be "interactive." Interactive is interpreted by the State as including the opportunity to ask live questions or to send questions to a designated email address. Employers like MCC are responsible for tracking annual completion using some type of auditable system. MCC tracks completion via the Grade Center in Blackboard.

It is the expectation of the College that all employees will view the training video in Blackboard prior to October 9 to comply with the State mandate.

(A link will be made available shortly on the Professional Development webpage in myMCC; in the meantime, you may click on the above to access and complete the training.)

A bit more information about this year's training video:

  • It is brief, and it is available in English and Spanish. The English version runs 11 minutes and 58 seconds; the Spanish version runs 14 minutes and 49 seconds.
  • It is ADA accessible. Accurate closed captioning has been uploaded to the YouTube file (you may turn close captioning on/off using the CC button on YouTube).
  • It was created by the SUNY Office of General Counsel to help campuses comply with the annual training requirement under New York State law.

If you have questions, you may contact HRtraining@monroecc.edu.

If you supervise a department where employees do not routinely access computer workstations, please contact Kristin Lowe, klowe5@monroecc.edu, to schedule a 30 minute training via Zoom prior to October 9.

As was the case last year, individuals who do not complete the training prior to the October 9 deadline will receive a counseling memo in their personnel file.

  • Although the turnaround time for completion of this training is short, the training itself is less than 15 minutes.
  • Last year over 50 counseling memos were issued. The goal is not to "catch" any employee with a counseling memo, but to work closely with individuals and departments to achieve 100% completion and to ensure a clear understanding of SUNY and MCC policy with regard to sexual harassment response and prevention on campus.

(Note: Those who completed the sexual harassment response and prevention training during Faculty Professional Week on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 satisfied their annual training requirement for the year. Attendance was recorded at that session.)
