Passing of Professor Emeritus Thomas Mendenhall, Law and Criminal Justice

I regret to inform you that Thomas A. Mendenhall, a professor emeritus in the Law and Criminal Justice Department, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, at the age of 92.

Mr. Mendenhall served with the FBI for 30 years before coming to MCC to teach in 1971 as an associate professor in the Police Science Department. During his tenure, he was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1975. Mr. Mendenhall was known as an intense student of the law not because his teaching responsibilities required it but because he had a keen personal interest in the subject. He was responsible for adding a Constitutional Law course to the continuing education curriculum. Mr. Mendenhall retired in 1987 as a professor and was awarded the title of professor emeritus for his distinguished service.

Mr. Mendenhall is survived by his wife, Esther; daughter Mary (Dr. Robert); sons John (Joan), Thomas (Nina), James and William; and several grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy.

A memorial service was held May 1 at Creation Chapel in Perinton, followed by interment at White Haven Memorial Park. Contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
