MCC Daily Tribune

New Advisory Board Website

Shortly after her arrival, President Burt-Nanna led the MCC team through the 2020 Aspen Guided Pathways National Symposium – Equitable Pathways to Good Jobs.  One area of focus was on the college’s relationship with advisory boards which Dr. McKinsey-Mabry has continued to prioritize as a divisional goal.

Monroe Community College recognizes that Advisory Boards are critical to the success of all professional, technical, and transfer programs offered by the College as they aid in the cultivation and maintenance of quality and relevant curricula. This includes advising on course content development, establishing networks with the service region's business community, and assisting with program review.

The college is committed to an active advisory board for every program.  Advisory boards inform whether programs may need to be expanded or developed to meet changing labor market demands.  They engage in program design and assessment conversations with the faculty.  Faculty engage employers and transfer partners to identify the skills and learning outcomes necessary for student success.  Advisory board meetings focus on problem-solving and result in concrete next steps to improve programs’ quality and equitable student participation and success.

Between advisory board meetings, chairs and faculty proactively solicit feedback from employers and transfer partners and collect feedback about the satisfaction of alumni and employers.  Departments use that information to improve program quality and inform employers’ ability to onboard new graduates.

We have developed a new website to identify and acknowledge the important work of our advisory board members.

If any updates need to be made now, or in the future, the primary point of contact is the Dean offices:

  • Joy Braselton- Academic Foundations and Community Engagement & Development
  • Maria Karras – Arts & Humanities, Business & Entrepreneurial Studies, and Social Sciences & Global Studies
  • Tiffany Sanders – Health Sciences & Physical Wellness and STEM
  • Debbie Smith - PSTF
  • Patti Montrois – Applied Sciences & Technologies

They will also ensure the updates are made each term as membership changes.  We plan to create external links over the next month to highlight the service of the board members but wanted to share the website with the college community now for your feedback.

I want to thank Marisa LaSpina, the deans, their staff, Kelsey Bright, Sean Baker, and all of the academic departments with their support of this project.
