MCC's Recycling Program Receives Recognition for Environmental Innovation

"Monroe Community College Recycles" program spearheaded by John Haines, senior labor foreman at the Downtown Campus, will be recognized with an honorable mention at the inaugural Environmental Innovation Awards & Symposium on October 25 at the Joseph A. Floreano Rochester Riverside Convention Center.

John's vision to improve recycling efforts has moved MCC to single stream recycling and a two-bin approach. Supported by a Strategic Planning Grant, the program was started at the Downtown Campus and then scaled up at the Brighton and Applied Technologies campuses.

Recipients of the Civic/Nonprofit Award for Environmental Innovation must have identified and created an innovative, scalable and replicable solution to conservation and/or sustainability issues in the community/region. The receiving organization must be based in one of the nine counties of the Finger Lakes region.

Congratulations to John and all those who assisted him with getting this program up and running.
