Help for Ukraine

On February 24, 2022 Russia attacked Ukraine. Since then, it has been destroying the country, killing civilians, and trying to overtake Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. In horror, we see that the Russian army does not differentiate between the military and civilian territories. They have been destroying kindergartens and daycare centers, apartment buildings, historical monuments, and other civilian structures, while killing civilians, including children.

I have been teaching in the Mathematics Department since 2003 and am a very active member of the local Ukrainian community. I have held various leadership roles in a number of local Ukrainian organizations and presently serve on the Help Ukraine Steering Committee of the ROC Maidan group, which provides medical and humanitarian help to Ukraine.

We are grateful to the greater Rochester community for their support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. We have been receiving many offers of humanitarian assistance but at present are not in the position to accept them. At this moment of time, Ukrainians need financial support more than anything else.

www.rocmaidan.org - ROC Maidan is a Rochester organization that collects funds for humanitarian assistance and medical supplies for Ukraine. Donations are tax-deductible.
https://unitedhelpukraine.org - US-based 501(c)(3) - medical supply to front lines. Donations are tax-deductible.
https://unwla.org/top-news/call-for-humanitarian-aid/ Ukrainian National Women’s League of America collects the aid which is being directed at civilians inside Ukraine who have been displaced or injured, as well as to four military hospitals (Kyiv, Dnipro, Lviv, and Zhytomyr) caring for injured soldiers. Donations are tax-deductible.

What to include in your message:

Тhe existential threat to Ukraine becomes more dire each day. We ask that the U.S. and its allies to immediately:

Implement and enforce a No Fly Zone over Ukraine with joint air policing with NATO.
Implement the immediate trade embargo of Russia.
Provide maximum possible military, humanitarian and financial assistance to Ukraine.
Close European skies, waters, and roads to all Russian transport.
Implement full isolation of Russia.
Enact immediate personal sanctions against all Russian oligarchs, their families, and associates.
Implement programs to accept Ukrainian refugees.

We are grateful for your support and will gladly accept humanitarian help once we will be in the position to do so.
