Optics Student, Faculty Interviewed for Article on Region's Job Growth
An article in the Democrat and Chronicle's April 10 (Sunday) issue examines some of the industry sectors -- including optics -- that are experiencing a shortage of skilled workers in the Finger Lakes region.
Michael Coscia, a student in MCC's optical systems technology program, and Professor Alexis Vogt, Ph.D., were among those interviewed for the article titled "From optics to wine, need for workers in Finger Lakes is 'incredible' in growing industries."
Michael was unemployed within the early months of the pandemic. He decided to change careers and enrolled in MCC. Within his first semester, he was hired as an intern at Lockheed Martin. "It's absolutely incredible the need we have for workers," Dr. Vogt is quoted in the article, adding that optics is "the field of the future."
Images of MCC's optics fabrication labs accompanied the article in print and online.
