Passing of Bill Sigismond, Director of Experiential and Adult Learning (retired)

I regret to inform the college family that William "Bill" Sigismond, former director of MCC's Experiential and Adult Learning program, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2020 at the age of 89.

A private burial will be held at Holy Ghost Cemetery in Rochester. A beautiful description of Bill's life and places to share memories and condolence are available on the New Comer website. Condolences can also be directed to his children, Jackie and Todd Sigismond, 15 Birch Lane, Irondequoit, NY 14622

Memorial gifts to the "Experiential Learning Scholarship," that was established in Bill's honor at the MCC Foundation, can also be made online. (Please note "In memory of Bill Sigismond" within the online form or within your correspondence to the Foundation.)

Bill attended Georgetown University where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration, followed by a master's degree in business education from the State University at Albany, and an administration certificate from the University of Rochester and SUNY Brockport.

After educating and counseling children for 25 years with the West Irondequoit School District, Bill came to MCC where he began his career as an adjunct assistant professor of business law in the Business Administration Department. In 1989, he became the director of cooperative education, a role that ultimately evolved into the Experiential and Adult Learning Office in 1998. Bill led a variety of programs, including the Walt Disney College Program and the Plus 50 Grant and inspired countless adult students to pursue their dreams at MCC. Bill retired from MCC in 2016.

Bill served and protected his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army and as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served our community as an inspiring educator and leader who left an indelible mark on many hearts throughout his career at MCC.

Bill is predeceased by his wife, Mary Beth Sigismond. He is survived by his children, Jackie (Shawn) Mery, Todd (Aileen Rosselli) Sigismond; grandchildren, Mathew and Lauren Mery and Anthony (Shelby) Sigismond; sister-in-law, Mary Agnes Corey; and family friend, Nori Sigismond.

He will be deeply missed by his MCC colleagues and friends.
