Monroe County Issues New COVID-19 Protocols. What This Means for MCC.

As you may know, Monroe County Executive Adam Bello has declared a state of emergency in Monroe County due to rising hospitalization rates related to COVID-19. The limited availability of hospital beds directly impacts the ability of area hospitals to care for non-COVID-related cases and emergencies.

While no mandates have been issued, the County encourages workplaces to require masking and promote vaccination and boosters. As the County Executive noted in his remarks (media release), the majority of those hospitalized for COVID-19 and those on respirators are unvaccinated.

MCC administrators are in close contact with County leaders, including County Executive Bello and Commissioner of Public Health Dr. Michael Mendoza, to ensure the College provides the safest possible working, teaching and learning environment in compliance with County protocols.

Your cooperation and support from CSEA and Faculty Association leaders have helped keep MCC’s on-campus positivity rate low. We especially appreciate the 1,000 current employees who have verified that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and those who comply with the weekly testing requirement. More than 96.3% of our current employees are complying with safety protocols (i.e., they have either verified vaccination, are testing weekly, or are working fully remotely this semester).

Effective immediately: When possible, larger group meetings and special events should be hosted virtually. For example, the upcoming MCC Board of Trustees meeting on December 6 and the MCC Town Hall on December 10 will be held virtually.

Reminders:

  • If you don't feel well, do not come to campus.
  • MCC students, faculty, staff and visitors—regardless of vaccination status—must wear face coverings inside college buildings.
  • Monroe County operates a vaccination site at the Downtown Campus on weekday afternoons. Boosters are also available.
  • Pooled testing is offered on Mondays and Tuesdays on the Brighton Campus—feel free to participate even if you are vaccinated.
  • Updates will be posted to the website.

College administrators, supported by our tactical workgroup and notification team, will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide updates. Thank you for everything you are doing to keep MCC operational and safe for our students and community.
