Rochester P-TECH Students Win the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Workforce Development Video Contest

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York sponsored a video contest for area P-TECH schools that culminated with an awards ceremony last week. "Leading the Way: A Greater Rochester Workforce Development Video Campaign" challenged the three area P-TECH schools; Rochester P-TECH, Western New York Tech Academy, and Wayne-Finger Lakes P-TECH, to create 30-second informational videos to increase awareness about in-demand industries in the region while educating students and the general public about technical and professional skills required by key industries in the area. Nine videos were selected from over thirty entries to be judged at the awards ceremony.

On Wednesday, December 13, 2017 the New York Federal Reserve hosted the Awards Ceremony at the MCC Downtown Campus. Students, families, and P-TECH staff were invited to the event at which The Honorable Lovely A. Warren, Mayor of the City of Rochester, was the keynote speaker and welcoming remarks were provided by Governor Lael Brainard, member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Our own Rochester P-TECH students won both first and second place in a contest that pitted 9 outstanding workforce videos against each other. Students from the winning Rochester P-TECH teams will receive laptop computers provided by the Rochester Community Foundation. In addition, the grand prize winning team will have their video professionally edited and shown as a trailer in local movie theaters for two weeks in the month of January.
