Article, Essay in Newspaper Highlight MCC's Role in Workforce Development

The Sept. 2 (Sunday) edition of the Democrat and Chronicle contains an article on regional efforts to generate interest in advanced manufacturing careers among youths, college students and displaced workers amid an industry workforce shortage.

The article “Well-paying positions in Rochester go unfilled” highlights MCC’s role and includes quotes from Vice President Todd Oldham and Applied Technologies Center program coordinator Bob Lasch.

A video accompanying the article online shows students in the Summer Work Experience for Youth program using lab equipment and talking about what they are learning and why they are interested in manufacturing. One of the students, Angel Acevedo, is a freshman at MCC this semester.

In addition, the newspaper published an essay by Bob Lasch on MCC’s heightened efforts this summer to help fulfill employers’ immediate and long-term workforce needs.
