College Update on COVID-19 Testing Efforts & Cases

This week, mandatory pooled (saliva) testing sessions will be held 2:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 and 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10 in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A/B) on the Brighton Campus. Weekly testing is mandatory for students and employees who come to the Applied Technologies Center, Brighton Campus, and Downtown Campus for any reason. No appointment necessary. 

  • Please complete your COVID-19 self-assessment prior to coming to campus.
  • If you are participating in pooled testing for the first time, please register on the SUNY Upstate Medical University website and follow these simple preparation steps (e.g., don’t brush your teeth or use mouthwash within 3 hours of taking your test).
  • Going forward, pooled testing sessions will be held 2:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Wednesdays each week until further notice.

Since our last report on Feb. 1, the Monroe County Department of Public Health has notified the College of 3 positive cases of COVID-19 among students and employees. According to MCC Health Services:

  • No students are isolating on campus
  • 17 students are isolating off campus
  • 10 students are in mandatory quarantine off campus

To date, MCC completed 7,493 COVID-19 pooled tests; 27 total cases were identified among students and employees through pooled testing, resulting in a 0.36% positivity rate. MCC submits daily updates to the SUNY COVID-19 Case Tracker.

MCC adheres to federal, state and county guidelines and requires mask wearing, social distancing, hand washing, respiratory etiquette and daily health self-assessments on campus. Visit the MCC Updates & Resources web pages for the latest updates.

Monroe County and Finger Lakes Regional Update

  • On Sunday, Feb. 7, Monroe County announced 188 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. The seven-day rolling average positivity rate is 2.6%.
  • The Finger Lakes region’s 7-day rolling average of available hospital beds is 37%. The 7-day rolling average of ICU beds available is 29%. The Finger Lakes region includes Monroe, Genesee, Livingston, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties.
