Eileen Doyle Awarded the 2009 Dr. Wesley T. Hanson Award for Teaching Excellence

The Professional Development Committee of the Faculty Senate is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2009 Dr. Wesley T. Hanson Award for Teaching Excellence is Professor Eileen Doyle of the Health Professions Department.

Professor Doyle began her career at Monroe Community College in 1973. In fact, she began her collegiate career by earning an AAS degree at MCC. Her outstanding performance in the classroom and passion for her students are widely recognized not only on campus but throughout the medical and academic communities in Monroe County. She is seen as being “tough but fair”, and as combining rigorous standards with warmth and empathy. She is beloved and respected by students and colleagues.

In addition to being a stellar classroom teacher, Eileen is widely credited as being “the catalyst/visionary” who persevered to bring and maintain cutting edge standards for MCC students in Radiologic Technology as the technology moved from standard x-ray film to sophisticated electronic digital imaging. This has resulted in MCC housing one of the most successful Radiologic Technology Programs in the country. The pass rate of Professor Doyle’s students on the National Registry Certification Examination is an exceptional ninety plus percent.

The Committee would also like to express its appreciation to all the wonderful nominees and to those who nominated them. It was an exceptionally strong field of candidates, which makes Professor Doyle’s award all the more meaningful.  We at the college and the community we serve are indeed fortunate to have such an abundance of excellent teaching faculty.
