Ryther, Socola, Reina to join MCC Sports Hall of Fame


Richard Ryther, Ashley (McMillen) Socola, and Joe Reina and will be honored at MCC’s Sports Hall of Fame banquet on Sept. 20.

Ryther came to Monroe in 1995 as the Executive Director of the MCC Association, Inc. He has also served the athletic department in an administrative role as the Associate Vice President, and most recently, Interim Vice President, for Student Services.

Socola (Class of 2005) was part of two national-title winning women’s basketball teams. The sharp-shooter from Penfield is MCC’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made in a season (112) and a career (182).  Socola also served as the college’s first Life Skills Coordinator, a position that provides academic and counseling support as well as leadership development opportunities for MCC student-athletes.

A Rochester native and graduate of Gates Chili High School, Reina (Class of 1995) starred for the MCC baseball team for two years. He was named the Region III Player of the Year and earned second team All-American honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association in 1995. Reina is currently the head baseball coach at the University of Rochester.
