The nature of work is changing. Take part in a discussion on how to prepare for the new economy.

Did you know that in the post Great Recession economy of 2010-2014, 50% of new U.S. businesses were located in only 20 counties (Economic Innovation Group, 2016)? A recent study by the McKinsey Global Institute noted that, by 2030, 60% of U.S. job growth could be limited to just 25 major metropolitan areas (2019). The nature of work is changing in the U.S. and around the world. How will we adapt? How can we ensure that the new economy is inclusive and opportunities for success are widely distributed? To begin the discussion about this key issue, The Democracy Commitment at MCC, MCC Faculty Senate, and MCC Department of Anthropology, History, Political Science, and Sociology will host another Fall 2020 deliberative dialogue titled The Future of Work: How Should We Prepare for the New Economy?

When: October 29th, 6pm-8pm

Where: Registration remains open through 10/28 at 5pm. You can register at: https://forms.gle/CMAzs43hE6EtNSL5A .

Because this discussion is a deliberative dialogue, it takes place in small groups driven by the contributions of those in attendance. Each small group discussion is facilitated by a moderator. To help anchor each discussion, the attached issue guide provided by the National Issues Forum Institute will be used. If you have questions, or would like more information, please email Joe Scanlon (jscanlon1@monroecc.edu).
