Bob King, Ph.D. Comments on Farming Trend

Agriculture and Life Sciences Institute Director Bob King, Ph.D. was quoted in the Feb. 22 Democrat and Chronicle article, “New crop of farmers in Rochester region.”

The article explores why the number of farmers is rising across New York state – by 10 to 12 percent in some counties. In the article by Steve Orr, King attributes some of the growth to a re-emergence of market gardens. “A lot of that is related to early retirements and layoffs. Typically what we're seeing is a lot of boutique farming or ... organic farming,” King said.
