Professors Diane Fitton and Lisa Bierre Present at NY Model Transition Winter Conference

Diane Fitton, professor in the Transitional Studies Department, and Lisa Bierre, academic advisor at Damon City Campus, recently presented a workshop titled, Making the Secondary to Post-Secondary Transition, MCC Model for Success, to a state-wide group of special education administrators and teachers.

Both Professors Fitton and Bierre, who teach COS 133, Introduction to College Studies and COS 101, College Orientation Seminar, described MCC’s COS program and its usefulness as a tool for helping students with disabilities transition to college.  The interactive presentation highlighted skills needed by transitioning students, explained how the COS program addresses those areas, and demonstrated hands-on activities used as instructional teaching methods in the course.

The workshop was held December 11th at the NY Model Transition Conference on Transitioning School Age Students with Disabilities in Rochester, NY.
