MCC Daily Tribune

Greetings of Gratitude

Margaret Kaminsky, Dean of Health and STEM because, "Margaret has not only been the leader STEM and HSPW has needed as communicator between department chairs and administration, but has also been a caring listener for so many of us. Margaret's responsibilities as dean of two schools with considerable numbers of students, faculty, and staff, and also significant lab, clinical, and required face-to-face components, have grown exponentially with MCC's move to distance learning. Margaret is not only just an email away but is always willing to chat on the phone, whether fulfilling a duty as dean, or simply a being a supportive friend (who also sewed masks early-on to give to folks who needed them!). Margaret didn't sign-up for this when she accepted the position as dean last year, as none of us signed-up for this or expected the world to change as it has, but she has stepped-up and been the leader, and friend, we all need during these times. Thank you, Margaret, you are truly appreciated!"

Juan Betancourt, Chemistry and Geosciences, because, "Professor Betancourt is an amazing teacher. I myself have struggled in the past with CHE-100, I ended up dropping the class a few years back because I wasn't getting it. When deciding to take the course again, Professor Betancourt was highly recommended by my peers. From the day I enter his course to the current chaos of transitioning to online class he has been nothing less than amazing. He is very committed to helping us understand the material, he readily stays after class or comes in early if someone isn't grasping the topic. Online has been no different. He makes sure to stay in constant communication to ease the transition to distance learning. His prerecorded lecture videos are nothing less than what was given during the in-class setting. I wanted to recognize him for just putting his foot forward and going the extra mile to make this a smooth transition. He is a great professor!"

Kristen Killion, Health & Physical Education, because, "Kristen has really gone above and beyond to create a comfortable environment for Emotional Wellness. We discuss topics that require us to be open and honest which can be incredibly difficult among strangers, yet she made it so easy. On top of her duties at MCC, she's also an EMT and provides an invaluable service to our community. She's always makes times to be available for her students and truly makes a difference."
