Jan Wiranowski Nominated for Outstanding Philanthropy Award

Professor and philanthropist Jan Wiranowski (Mathematics) was highlighted in the article “Awards honor, celebrate spirit of giving to the community,” published in the November 6 issue of the Rochester Business Journal’s Special Report on Philanthropy. Wiranowski was among the 23 firms, individuals and organizations nominated for the 2009 philanthropy awards, sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Genesee Valley Chapter. The MCC Foundation nominated Wiranowski for the Outstanding Philanthropist award for the multiple endowed scholarships he has established to inspire MCC students.

The MCC Foundation also partnered with Rochester Institute of Technology to nominate M/E Engineering P.C. for the Outstanding Corporation award for the company’s generous support of the two colleges and its students.

The awards were announced on National Philanthropy Day (November 13) at a special luncheon at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center. While Wiranowski and M/E Engineering did not win awards in their individual categories, many were on hand to applaud their commitment to higher education and MCC students.
