Student Services Professional Development Series Continues

As the spring semester advances the Student Services professional development series continues throughout the semester. All employees are welcome to join us for any of these noon-time zoom presentations. To receive the zoom link for any session, please email Pam Rende (prende@monroecc.edu).

I. INCREASING STUDENT AND EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT: THE ART OF STORY-TELLING

The virtual age has made engagement even more challenging for faculty and staff, whether it is instructing students or facilitating a meeting. One tactic that research reveals is effective in increasing connections and ensuring that more information is remembered is that of story-telling. Join us as Professor Mark Sample shares some of his techniques on the art of story-telling.

II. WHO ARE OUR STUDENTS

The vast majority of our students are engaged in distance learning this spring semester, and they occasionally have resource challenges. Join us for a panel presentation which will cover what resources are available for students, and how we can assist with the resource request process and student empowerment.

III. THE ART OF INTERVIEWING

Whether you are seeking new opportunies or simply want to brush up on your public speaking skills, this presentation will cover the fundamentals of the art and science of interviewing. While the process is subjective, there are best practices that enhance opportunites. Join us for this interesting discussion.

IV. PROJECT COMPLETE: USING THE REST OF THE SPRING SEMESTER TO ACCOMPLISH A MAJOR GOAL

Although the semester is often packed with numerous obligations, it is also a defined period where major projects can be completed. Join us for a discussion on developing a personal strategy and a plan to define, organize, and accomplish a professional or personal goal.

V. FACILITATING AN EFFECTIVE ZOOM MEETING

As most of the college employees continues to work remotely, the use of zoom has bcome more important than ever. Studies reveal that zoom meetings have actually increased disengagement and reduced overall productivity. Join us for this presentation as we explore ways to ensure that zoom meetings are more enjoyable and effective.

VI. MANAGING YOUR DISTRACTIONS

Distractions are more prevalent at home than on the campus, so to be as effective and efficient as possible, it is important to recongnize the distractions and employ various techniques to manage them. This presentation will review the science of distractions and how ot minimize them.
