Passing of James Terrell


I am deeply saddened to inform you that James Terrell, retired director of Counseling, passed away on Sunday, September 30. Jim retired from MCC in 1999 after 33 years of devoted service.

Hired in 1966 as a counselor, Jim became assistant director of Counseling in 1971. Over the years, he served on many committees including the Academic Advisement Council and the Veteran Students Advisory Commitee. He was also vice president for community colleges for the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS).

During the years that Jim led MCC's Counseling Department, significant improvements were made in serving our students. A talented administrator, he was the 1992 recipient of MCC's Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 at Anthony Funeral & Cremation Chapels, 2305 Monroe Avenue, Rochester.

A service will be  held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5 at St. John's of Rochester, 8 Wickford Way, Fairport, New York 14450.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to James Albert Terrell Scholarship c/o the MCC Foundation.
