Student Services Virtual Professional Development Series Expands

The Student Services professional development program resumed last week in a virtual format. The Zoom interactive presentations are open to all MCC employees, and the response to the initial sessions was excellent. We are therefore expanding the series with additional topics and an increase of sessions.

If interested in participating in any session, please email Pam Rende (prende@monroecc.edu) and you will be emailed a private Zoom link.

I. RE-FOCUSING YOUR LIFE: MANAGING DISTRACTIONS AND SAVING TIME

An opportunity to reflect on the things that distract one in life, and strategies on how to minimize the distractions and become more productive.

II. ASSESSING YOUR CAREER

This three-part series will provide attendees an opportunity to look deeply into their career, take advantage of this work-from-home period, and ensure that their future positions remain fulfilling.

A. FIVE PRINCIPLES TO GOVERN YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE

This presentation will cover guiding principles that are applicable to all careers.

Tuesday, April 21st Noon to 1:00 pm

B. DISCOVERING YOUR CORE MISSION

This interactive program will allow attendees to complete a self-assessment of their skills, values, and dreams.

Friday, May 1st Noon to 1:00 pm

C. CAREER CONSULTATION

This 30-minute session will include a private review of the career self-assessment and guidance for a plan to move forward in one's career.

May 4th - May 22nd individual scheduling

III. FINANCIAL PLANNING DURING AN UNCERTAIN TIME

These informative presentations will review current market conditions and provide historical perspectives for this challenging economic period. The program is presented by financial educator from VOYA, Gary Witten, and the sessions are designed for all employees from those just starting their careers to those preparing for retirement. Each workshop will cover different areas, but employees are welcome to ask any questions related to their own interests.

IV. THE ART OF INFLUENCE IN A VIRTUAL WORLD

This presentation will provide ideas on how individuals can remain connected to others and influence their world while most interactions are in the virtual realm. AVP Matt O'Connor will co-host this program.

Friday, April 24th Noon to 1:00 pm

V. THE IMPACT OF STORY TELLING IN A VIRTUAL WORLD

History professor Mark Sample will co-host this discussion on how to incorporate stories into the classroom, meeting room, and all aspects of work to increase impact.
