President's Wednesday Message

Thank you to all who attended last week’s Message to the College Community. During those meetings, I touched on topics including enrollment, the new downtown campus, activities ongoing at MCC to support our strategic plan, and much more, such as our new “Inspiring Every Day” television ads.

The ads feature our alums sharing why and how MCC inspired them. Nothing conveys the value and importance of the work you do every day better than the success stories of our students. They speak to MCC’s commitment to opportunity, excellence and innovation, and to our dedication to developing the whole student: to graduating future leaders in every field and preparing our alumni to transition successfully throughout life.

This is a time of transitions at MCC. Some of our valued colleagues are retiring after long and remarkably successful careers; others are building upon their rich experiences at MCC as they seek their own leadership paths. Such change is never easy, but to paraphrase Heraclitus, it is the only constant.

Each of us finds her or his way through institutional change, and in that process, I encourage us to reflect on our students’ stories, whether of those we know personally, those whose images we pass by on the Alumni Hall of Fame wall, or those we will see in our new ads. These students attended MCC under different leaders; were taught by different faculty; met with different advisors and counselors; and took classes at different campuses. Yet, each success story has one thing in common: Monroe Community College.

The inspirational and transformational power of MCC comes from our collective belief in and commitment to our vision, mission and values. Over more than a half a century, this principle has not changed. Thank you for your personal and professional commitment to the ideals of MCC: it makes them real every day.

Do you have a story that captures the power of MCC? Please share it on the blog.
