Quotes That Inspire

Closing out two months since the reorganization, with the dust from that significant upheaval settling, this quote from Sarah Benedict from the Psychology Department and the Wellness Council, resonates this week.

"The most creative act you will ever undertake is the act of creating yourself." - Deepak Chopra, Indian-American author, physician, and alternative-medicine advocate

Tomorrow is Halloween. While I hope you enjoy this annual tradition of donning a costume and assuming an alternate persona this year as much as ever, that is not the kind of creating oneself to which this quote speaks.

Let me frame this reflection with the fact that Sarah herself experienced the bumping that became a prevalent feature of the aftermath of position eliminations this fall semester. The quote she submitted reminds us that we each have the power--and I would add also the responsibility--to approach every situation as a creative opportunity to continually evolve into our best selves. We only have control over how we react to situations, not the situations themselves. This may also be good to keep in mind as we meet our four finalists for the permanent presidency at MCC this coming week.

Happy haunting this weekend and remember to have your clocks "fall back."

Is there a quote that inspires you to be your best self? If so, please submit it along with a brief narrative about why the quote resonates for you to PresOffice@monroecc.edu. "Quotes That Inspire" are shared with colleagues on Fridays in the MCC Daily Tribune.
