WXXI News Report Highlights MCC Optics Program, Faculty's Efforts

WXXI News aired a segment last week on how local schools, including MCC, are preparing students for high-demand photonics careers in an industry that is growing in Greater Rochester.

Multimedia reporter/producer Sasha-Ann Simons interviewed Alexis Vogt, endowed chair and associate professor of MCC’s optical systems technology program; John Chirinko, an MCC optics student who hopes to begin a second career after spending many years in finance with Bausch + Lomb; and Jim Sydor, president/owner of Stefan Sydor Optics and an MCC alumnus.

Alexis talked about the program’s enrollment increase, curriculum changes, and her efforts to expose students as young as kindergarteners to science.

WXXI’s report aired on “Need to Know Rochester” on Thursday and on AM 1370 radio on Friday morning.
