Professor Elizabeth Johnston (English/Philosophy) Wins National Poetry Award

Every year Rattle literary magazine offers a $15,000 prize to a single poem; ten finalists are also chosen and, in addition to publication in the Winter issue, are eligible for the $5,000 Readers’ Choice Award, selected by subscriber vote in February. This year there were more than 15,000 poems submitted. Elizabeth Johnston's poem, "After My Teenager Tries...." was selected as one of the ten finalists for the 2021 prize.

The official announcement can be accessed here: https://www.rattle.com/prize/winners/w2021/

Additionally, Johnston was interviewed by Christine Green in 585 Magazine about two of her new chapbooks; the interview can be accessed here: https://www.585mag.com/wild-things/?fbclid=IwAR0hYATFd9yurfMpEsaO6u4B5hfBwehaoygOILBvEnNLXDkrdRS7MI7qqLQ.

The English/Philosophy Department is proud of Professor Johnston's achievements in poetry and see her publications and awards as an assett to the MCC community.
