MCC Presenters at Open Ed **Corrected Link**

** Corrected link for College Success Course openly licensed text

MCC was well represented at the 15th Annual Open Education Conference that was held October 10-12 in Niagara Falls, NY.

Renee Dimino and Terry Shamblin (ESOL/TRS) recently completed an extensive revision to their College Success Course openly licensed text and presented "Going Open in a College Orientation & Success Strategies Course", describing the process of making the text specific to MCC and reflective of our student population.

Tori Matthews, (Biology), along with colleagues from Kingsborough and Hostos community colleges, spoke on "The Student Voice - Perspectives on OER Today and into the Future".

Jason (Jay) Gillette (photo attached- 5th from right), a current MCC student and former student in Tori Matthews' Fall 2017 General Biology I OER course, presented on the Keynote Student Panel along with other SUNY students and graduates. Students talked about the impact of choosing courses using Open Educational Resources (OER). Jay presented his perspective as a single parent and the benefits of using OER, including cost savings and accessibility from day one.

Katie Ghidiu, Director of MCC Libraries, and Michelle Beechey, Open Education Resources (OER) Librarian, presented "It Takes a Village: Tackling OER Course Development with a Team Approach" which discussed MCC Libraries' team based approach to OER support.

If you'd like to learn more about using Open Educational Resources, please contact Michelle Beechey or Katie Ghidiu.
