MCC's Tokeya C. Graham to address the Class of 2019

Associate Professor Tokeya Graham, member of the MCC Class of 1996 and sought-after speaker on race, literature, education and women's issues, will deliver the Message to the Graduates at MCC's 2019 Commencement, Saturday morning, June 1 at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial.

Associate Professor Graham came to MCC as an Alice H. Young Intern in the English/Philosophy Department which led to her full-time hiring in 2008. In addition to teaching, her service to the College has included membership on several committees, including President's Expanded Cabinet, African American Affinity Group, Diversity Council and the Creative Writing Committee. She also serves as advisor to the Black Student Union at the Downtown Campus.

In the community, Tokeya is host of the Soulstainable Living Radio Show, on WAYO LP 104.3 FM and WGMC Jazz 90.1 FM, a weekly talk radio/music program where guests share personal testimony and discuss issues relevant to the Black community. She also chairs the Girls' Literacy After School Program and the Voices of Experience program for the Women's Foundation of Genesee Valley. She is a member of the expert advisory panel of the Democrat & Chronicle's Time to Educate project. She is a founder of We All Write and Charity ROCs.

In 2018, Tokeya received the Women's Foundation of Genesee Valley Leadership Award, and was an ATHENA Awards Young Professional Finalist in 2017.

MCC's commencement ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial. The ceremony will be streamed live via www.monroecc.edu.
