Rochester New York Football Club to Play at MCC in 2022

Great news, Tribunes!

Yesterday, at a media conference hosted by Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, MLS NEXT Pro announced the 21 clubs that will compete in the new professional league’s inaugural 2022 season, including the Rochester New York Football Club (RNY FC) who will play at MCC!

According to the media release, “Rochester NY FC will serve as MLS NEXT Pro’s inaugural independent club. Rochester NY FC, founded in 1996 as the Rochester Rhinos and rebranded this September, is owned by David and Wendy Dworkin, and co-owned by Premier League striker, and former England National Team star, Jamie Vardy of Leicester City F.C.”

RNY FC will play MLS teams from major cities like Chicago, Miami, Toronto and Vancouver during the 2022 season.

This is a win-win-win situation for our students, our community and for the Rochester New York Football Club! MCC is thrilled to team with Wendy and David Dworkin and Jamie Vardy to inspire our community forward through professional soccer. We share the values of empowerment and excellence. The team will fit right in at our College, where—like MCC Tribunes—they will have opportunities to live on campus, compete and become well-rounded, successful scholars and leaders on and off the field. The partnership also opens doors for MCC students and others to pursue internships and gain experience and have access to a professional sports experience.

RNY FC practices will be held at a separate location in Henrietta. MCC is providing space for games in such a way that will complement and not interfere with MCC Tribunes soccer and lacrosse matches.

MLS NEXT Pro’s inaugural season will begin in March and culminate in postseason action in September. We anticipate RNY FC’s first home game at John L. DiMarco Field on the Brighton Campus will be in April 2022. The full 2022 match schedule and more details will be announced at a later date.

I encourage you to share this exciting news with family and friends.
