CIVITAS Impact Update

No one would be surprised if we told you that scholarships help students persist at MCC. With the Scholarships Online general application deadline approaching, many of you have already reached out to the students in your area of influence and encouraged them to apply- thank you! Would it be helpful if you knew what monetary award level would have the greatest impact on our students success, what student population shows the largest lift in persistence when they receive a scholarship, or what student population is the least likely to apply for a scholarship? Would that help you craft your message and target your outreach efforts? It can and it did!

Utilizing the CIVITAS impact tool, IR assessed 2,521 MCC students and shared the findings with the MCC Foundation. On February 26th, a targeted message was delivered to MCC students who have completed 0-1 term at MCC. The population was split between full-time and part-time students and a customized message, informed by CIVITAS nudge insights, was created for each group with the goal of getting more of our students to apply for MCC scholarships early when it is most impactful.

Will it work? We no longer have to wonder, by sending the communication through CIVITS Outreach we can track open and click-through rates and at the next census date, we will be able to assess lift in persistence for the students in the control group who received an MCC scholarship. The system also allows us to monitor changes in student behavior throughout the semester by continuously updating the students predicted persistence score. Having this detailed assessment will allow us to further refine targeted communication to our student population. We thank the MCC Foundation for their partnership on this outreach and we look forward to future collaboration.
