Clarke Reminds Rochester about Auschwitz Anniversary

The Jan. 27 issue of the Democrat and Chronicle features a speaking out essay by Charlie Clarke, professor of psychology and director of the Holocaust Genocide Studies Project at Monroe Community College. Within his essay, Clarke reminds readers of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz (a Nazi concentration camp that was liberated by Soviet troops on Jan. 27, 1945.) He also states that the event "is a reminder that we must put our individual and collective lives into perspective" noting how many people in our world are still dying of AIDS, genocide and war.

He also emphasized the importance of commemorating and retelling the "touchstone story of the Holocaust to remind us that universal human rights are not a luxury, but a necessity to our shared existence."
