MCC Professors Selected as Cornell Internationalization Fellows

Congratulations to Professors Joseph Scanlon (Anthropology, History, Political Science, Sociology) and Angelique Stevens (English-Philosophy) for being selected as Cornell University 2022 Community College Internationalization Fellows!

Dr. Scanlon and Professor Stevens will join five other faculty members from Cayuga Community College, Corning Community College, and Tompkins Cortland Community College as they engage in scholarly projects meant to enhance their teaching and curricula.

Dr. Scanlon’s research will focus on the relationship between sport and culture in Southeast Asia. Specifically, he will examine the relationship between sport and ethnic and national identity with an emphasis on the use of sport for the purposes of dominance, integration, or resistance. The research will be used in Political Science classes to further explore concepts and issues related to culture and identity.

Focusing on her Literature of the Holocaust and Perpetrators, Victims, & Bystanders: Literature of Genocide courses, Professor Stevens’s project seeks to compile programming opportunities and contemporary texts that explore humanity amidst mass atrocity in a global society. The geographical lens of her work will focus beyond literature in the Western Canon and include texts from regions and cultures such as Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
