Position Realignment, Reorganization to Move Forward in January 2022

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration of my position realignment and reorganization proposal and the opportunity to respond to your questions to during last month’s open forum hosted by the Faculty Senate’s Special Committee on Administrative Affairs (SCAA).

The feedback and recommendations SCAA shared with me last week are invaluable as, together, we position MCC to deliver on its mission based on our five strategic priorities*.

I appreciate the leadership of Faculty Senate President Dr. Nayda Pares-Kane, SCAA Chair Becky Babcock and members of SCAA for their efforts to provide ample opportunities for colleagues to share their perspectives, questions and concerns throughout this process.

This is an example of how shared governance works at MCC! Be assured that the proposal was thoroughly evaluated by President’s Cabinet members and by Executive Director of Human Resources Kristin Lowe to ensure our vacancy review process was followed to the letter before sharing it with SCAA and the college community.

Additional information in response to feedback and recommendations will be shared in early 2022, including the position description for the Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Belonging/Executive Director of Downtown Campus. The impact of this structure and other operational matters will be established and assessed at the division (unit) level as part of MCC’s strategic planning process.

The realignment of positions and roles will begin in January.

MCC’s Five Strategic Priorities:

  1. Inspiring the way forward “from the inside out”
  2. Safely and compassionately returning to in-person learning and work
  3. Prioritizing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts
  4. Increasing student recruitment, enrollment and retention
  5. Planning for and advancing major initiatives
