Mike McDermott, Diane Navarro Win MCC Toastmasters Contests

Congratulations to MCC alumnus Mike McDermott and Diane Navarro (Instructional Technologies) for winning the MCC Toastmasters Club’s Tall Tales and International Speech Contests respectively on March 9.

McDermott’s winning speech “Pete’s Sake” was a fictitious tale inspired by his grandfather’s home near the Green Mountains of Vermont. McDermott graduated from MCC’s manufacturing technology program and was the 2009 winner of the Otis Young Motivational Speak-off. He recently joined the MCC Toastmasters Club.

Navarro’s winning International Speech, entitled “8”, inspired her audience to believe in themselves and be thankful for the wonderful opportunities life provides. Navarro is a past president and founding member of the MCC Toastmasters Club. She currently serves as the club’s vice president-membership.

McDermott went on to complete at the Toastmasters Area 4 Tall Tales Contest at PAETEC on March 12.

Interested in growing your public speaking and leadership skills? Please be our guest at the next MCC Toastmasters Club meeting on Tuesday, May 23 at 5 pm in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center, Empire Room.
