MCC Daily Tribune

Interested in Celtic Society?

Have you been interested about why the Scots had a referendum to break away from the United Kingdom? Why Scotland and Northern Ireland wanted to stay in the European Union, while England and Wales supported Brexit?

Have you wondered why the Irish broke away from the UK after World War I, but soon after, fought amongst each other?

Are you interested in leading MCC's entry into the Rochester St. Patrick's Day parade?

Did you realize that several different Celtic nations have their own claim regarding the legends of King Arthur?

Did you know that Cornwall has great waves for surfing, while the Isle of Man has one of the most dangerous motorcycle races annually?

All these ideas and more can be explored in the Celtic Society, where the nations of Brittany, Cornwall, Galicia, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Scotland, and Wales, and their diaspora, are celebrated.

One does not need to have a Celtic background to be involved, but an interest in learning more about the culture is very helpful.

We've even had photo shoots on St. Andrew's Day and National Tartan Day with several members of the MCC Community. (Always be proud to wear your family's colors!)

We also have leadership opportunities to plan events (including the St. Patrick's Day Parade entry); to represent the Society to the Student Senate and the Club and Organization Council; to work on the LEAD Program Certificate; and to collaborate with other clubs and organizations.

The possibilities are endless. We could design (and register) a tartan for the college. We could travel to Boston. We could even travel to Ireland or Scotland.

If you are interested in joining, contact us at mcccelticsociety@gmail.com. If you are interested in becoming an officer, contact our advisor, Jason Childers, at jchilders001@monroecc.edu .

We have monthly Celtic Movie Nights; we do fundraising; and we get involved in community service.
