Summer of Fun with Liberty Partnerships Program

LPP's "Fun-stravaganza" infused learning and field trips into a three week summer program in July with staff guiding students' exploration of the brain, different modes of transportation, and Upstate New York's rich cultural history. LPP teachers tailored their lessons to these themes. Highlights: Our summer program kicked off with a visit to the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Center at the University of Rochester that included a presentation on the brain, and fun hands-on activities. In our second week, we pedaled throughout downtown Rochester with Rochester Pedal Tours to discover architectural and historical gems while getting a great deal of exercise! We ended that week with a visit to the Genesee Country Village and Museum where students and staff were exposed to activities of daily life inside an authentic 19th century village. Students learned about dressmaking and how to cook without today's modern appliances. The last week was packed with more FUN! We visited Alfred State and Alfred University, experienced, through reenactments by AKWAABA Heritage Tours actors, the lives of people who were critical to the Underground Railroad in Rochester, and learned about Native Americans who were part of the Iroquois Confederacy at the Ganondagan Seneca Art and Cultural Center. To end our fun-filled program, Read's Ice Cream truck served students and their families homemade ice cream and we held a celebration at Stony Brook State Park.
