Passing of Professor Emeritus Richard O'Keefe

I am deeply saddened to inform the MCC community that the College has lost a dear and dedicated friend in Professor Emeritus Dick O’Keefe, a founding faculty member in History and Political Science. Hired in 1962, Dick was one of MCC’s early leaders. He was promoted to the rank of professor in 1967.  A highly respected scholar with a generous heart, Dick served as negotiator for the Faculty Association and was a Faculty Senate member, a student government advisor and department chair for many years. After serving MCC for more than 30 years, he retired in 1995.

Dick earned a B.S. and M.S. from SUNY Brockport. Prior to joining MCC, he served two years (1952-54) in the U.S. Army and  was a teacher in the Greece Central School district.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 29 at 10 am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2000 Highland Avenue. Interment is at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Thompson Scholarship Fund, Monroe Community College Foundation, Damon City Campus, 228 East Main Street, Rochester, NY 14604.
