Bess Watts Receives Award from Rochester Labor Council

Bess Watts, Brighton Campus Library, and her partner, Anne Tischer, received the “Mother Jones Award for Sacrifice Above and Beyond” from the Rochester Labor Council, AFL-CIO, on Thursday, December 8, 2011.  The award is described as a recognition “to an individual who has given, sacrificed and/or donated their time to advance the causes of working men and women.”

Bess and Anne were celebrated for their tireless efforts promoting marriage equality which resulted in new legislation in New York this year. Additionally, they created a model constituency group with their work through Pride At Work; provided countless hours of mentoring for staff and volunteers throughout the Labor movement; and provided creative signage seen at local rallies for several years, as well as in national media outlets this fall! They even provided some wonderfully creative dioramas entitled “Occupy the Holidays” (a take on the Occupy Rochester encampment) for the annual Rochester Labor Council Delegates Dinner (photos attached) at which they received the award.
