During the ceremony, John Buono, president of the Rochester Area McDonald’s Co-op, announced news of an endowed scholarship established in Richard Guon’s memory to benefit students in MCC’s hospitality program.

Richard M. Guon was an entrepreneur, humanitarian and chairman of the Monroe Community College Board of Trustees. Until his death in April 2009 at age 62, Guon was president of Guon Corporation, which owns and operates several McDonald’s restaurants in Rochester.

Guon was affiliated with the MCC Foundation for over 20 years, first as a Foundation director and then a Foundation Council member. He led the college’s first capital fundraising effort, which raised $1 million to build the child care center. The center opened in 1991 and has since provided quality care to nearly 2,000 children.
