MCC Daily Tribune

September 1, 2020

We start this day writing the next chapter in MCC's nearly 60-year history.

We do so while acknowledging that dedicated, high-performing colleagues who have voluntarily separated or retired from MCC. Their good work helped MCC surpass students' learning and service expectations for many years. Their commitment to this College and student success has led to MCC's outstanding national and regional reputation for educational innovation and excellence. I join you in appreciating and missing them. MCC always has been and always will be about people working toward a common goal of educating those who dream of earning a college degree or certificate in order to transform their lives.

Nearly 60 years ago this month, founding trustees, faculty and staff opened this college. It is our job today to keep it open through this crisis so that MCC emerges stronger for our community. The elimination of positions was essential to the College's viability at this time. It's going to take all of us, working together, to serve our students, mitigate our projected budget shortfalls, and navigate safely through the pandemic.

We are working with leaders across the College to create a structure that enables us to effectively serve our students. We will share more information this week at Friday's MCC Town Hall.

Thank you for your service and for contributing to this next chapter in MCC's success story. Our efforts will help many in our community achieve their dreams of higher education and return to economic prosperity.
