Help the Travel Club raise money for our Senior Citizen Shindig - Buy Soup!

The Travel Club has teamed up with Monroe #1 BOCES to host our largest community service project of the year.  On May 11, 2007 we will be hosting a special event for senior citizens at the Clarion Riverside Hotel called the “Senior Shindig."  The Travel Club is working with Lifespan to coordinate the invitation of 100 senior citizens from the downtown area of Rochester to this special event.  Many of the attendees have very few opportunities to participate in special programs, and our goal is to provide this deserving group of individuals with a day of fun, food and friendship along with some educational offerings.  The seniors will begin the morning with a light breakfast and then attend two educational seminars.  The seniors will have a choice among three seminar options including a travelogue on the Galapagos Islands, a nutritional cooking class, and a dance class.  The day will conclude with lunch and some recreational games in the afternoon.

Club members have worked hard organizing the event, locating speakers and canvassing area businesses for donations of money, food, prizes and items for goodie bags that each attendee will receive.  The real benefit of the day will be in the blending of the high school and college students with senior citizens.  We will provide friendship and personal growth for one another by working, playing and learning together.  We hope this event will make a positive impact on the community in the name of MCC.

HOW CAN YOU HELP????  You can buy soup from our vendor on campus this Friday.  Healthy Sisters sells 8 kinds of soups (ragin cajun, 6 bean organic, spicy split pea, curried lentil, Tuscan bean, mild chili, hot chili & bountiful bean).  Check them out at: https://www.healthysisters.org/ .  They will be upstairs in the Atrium on Friday, May 4th from 11am - 2pm, offering samples of Rita's Ragin' Cajun, their best seller.  The soups retail for $6.  They will also bring a few of their cook's choice gift baskets to sell.  Don't forget Mother's Day is right around the corner!  Please stop by their table!!

If you don't have time to stop by the table, but would like to help the Travel Club raise money for this event, feel free to place your soup orders or send a donation to Diane Cheasty or Janet Zinck.
