Passing of Helen Lomicka


Helen Lomicka, retired after 15 years at MCC, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29 at age 83. She had served as stenographer, secretary and administrative assistant in the President’s and Vice President for Human Resources departments from 1978 to 1993.

While employed at MCC, Helen earned her A.A.S. in business administration in 1989 and the Distinguished Support Staff Award in 1992.

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Roy Lomicka; daughter, Susan (Carl) Burns; sons, Roy Jr. (Barbara) Lomicka, Jeffrey (Cricket) Lomicka; sisters, Matilda Strickland, Rose (Martin) Clark; brother, Santo (Ronnie) Muti; grandchildren, Kristin & Brian Lomicka, Dustin & Andrew Burns; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother, Louis Muti.

During the war, Helen worked her first job as a secretary at the Pentagon; her last job before retirement was an administrative assistant at MCC. In her retirement years, Helen enjoyed gardening and was the caretaker of the flowers at St. Charles Borromeo Church for years. She enjoyed studying ancient languages, biblical history, and maintained her family’s genealogy.

Friends may call Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home 1075 Long Pond Road. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Entombment, Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Church in her memory.
