Passing of Professor Emerita Anne Cooney

I am sad to inform the college community of Professor Emerita Anne Cooney’s death on Sunday, September 8, 2013. Anne spent 35 years at MCC and her contributions to the college community were significant.

More than an innovative and caring teacher, she was a dear colleague to many and a  friendly, familiar face throughout the campus.  Along with Judy Hall, Anne taught MCC’s first classes in children’s literature. When Criminal Justice moved to DCC, she volunteered to teach detective fiction there. Outside the classroom, she offered her leadership in many ways. Anne served as chair of the grievance committee in the formative years of the Faculty Association and on countless governance and department committees as well.

Anne is survived by her son, Jeremy A. Cooney, Esq.; sister, Sheila Swigert; brother, Stephen Cooney; sister-in-law, Nora Cooney; niece, Elizabeth (Matthew) Alexander; and nephew, Edward Cooney. Predeceased by her brother, Richard Cooney. She was a leader at Christ Church Rochester.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, 11 AM at Christ Church, 141 East Ave. Rochester, 14604. Contributions may be made to to the Anne W. Cooney Memorial Fund at the Rochester Area Community Foundation at https://www.racf.org/Donate.
