Clery Required Campus Security Authority (CSA) Training

Many of you will be receiving an e-mail this week either identifying you as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) for Monroe Community College or simply reminding you of your designation. As you may recall, the title is deceiving because a CSA can be someone outside of Public Safety. According to the US Department of Education's Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting, a CSA is, "An official of an institution who has significant responsibility for student and campus activities, including, but not limited to, student housing, student discipline, and campus judicial proceedings." This includes, for example; athletic coaches, faculty advisors to student groups, trip advisors/coordinators, clinical faculty, academic deans, etc.

The function of a CSA is to report those allegations of Clery Act crimes that they receive to the official or office designated by the institution to collect crime report information, which for MCC is the Department of Public Safety. CSAs are not responsible for investigating those incidents. They are simply required to contact Public Safety when/if a crime is reported to them.

MCC continues to collaborate with D. Stafford & Associates (DSA) to provide a CSA online training program. This training will provide identified individuals with the requisite training for this responsibility, which complies with the Clery Act. DSA also updates the courses with new material to meet the requirements and changes in Clery regulations and guidance, as necessary, striving to provide quality training and information regarding these complex federal regulations.

When you receive the e-mail, which will come from Kevin A. Hall (our Assistant Chief), please click on the link provided and complete any courses assigned to you, within the next 30 days. If you participated in training last year, this year's re-certification will be significantly shorter. If you have any questions, please contact the representative from each Division listed below. Thank you for your assistance in this vital matter.
