Passing of Honorary Trustee Wayne Gilman

I share with great sadness the news that Honorary Trustee Wayne Gilman passed away yesterday.

Trustee Gilman's legacy at MCC is enormous, both through his incredible leadership during his service on the Board of Trustees (1982-1998) and his generosity. He has impacted the lives of thousands of MCC students through his financial guidance to the College, and his support of scholarships and college facilities. His many contributions were acknowledged with the naming of the Gilman Lounge in 2007; with the Benefactor of the Year distinction, awarded by the Council for Resource Development in 2004; and with the Alice Holloway Young Award recognizing actively engaged, retired trustees, awarded by the New York Community College Trustees in 2011.

As chair of the Board's Finance Committee, Trustee Gilman led efforts to establish the Richard M. Guon Child Care Center in 1991 and the Damon City Campus in 1992. Because access to higher education was deeply important to him, he lent his counsel and expertise in financial matters to the College and the MCC Foundation. He served on the Foundation board from 1992 to 2015, and then on its Foundation Council until his passing.

A retired Kodak executive--he worked in corporate finance--Trustee Gilman delighted in seeing his former office become part of the new Downtown Campus and to watch these buildings be renewed so that they could provide access to higher education for our community. He delighted in attending the community celebration of the campus in September.

Services are tentatively planned for the weekend. We will share the details when they are available.
