Rochester AmeriCorps Member Provides Disaster Relief in Buffalo

Rochester AmeriCorps is proud to report that first-year member Laura Pullis has been deployed through the Red Cross to provide disaster relief in the Buffalo area.  Laura got the call this weekend and left Rochester early Sunday morning.  Laura, who recently moved here from New Jersey to enroll in AmeriCorps, will be working in Buffalo for up to a week.

Following last week’s unexpected snow storm, President Bush on Sunday declared four western New York counties federal disaster Areas.  Laura will be assisting with shelter management, providing food, water, shelter, goods and services to anyone affected by the storms and resulting power outages.

Laura is eligible for this assignment through her training with Rochester AmeriCorps.  All AmeriCorps members took Red Cross Shelter Operations classes during their program training in September, earning official Red Cross certification and the opportunity to be deployed locally or around the country when an emergency occurs.

Thanks, Laura, for your willingness to serve!!!
