Retiree Edward D. Mills, Ed.D.


The college recently became aware that former MCC administrator and instructor Edward D. Mills, Ed.D. passed away “unexpectedly and peacefully” at his home in Naples, Fla. on April 13, 2016.

Mr. Mills was hired as MCC’s director of registration in 1965. During his nearly 20-year career at the college, he served as director of counseling and testing and as the director of development and institutional planning. He also taught in the Business Administration/Economics Department. He retired from MCC in 1986.

Mr. Mills earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State College, a master’s of education degree from Pennsylvania State University, and a doctorate of education from Columbia University. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Following his retirement from MCC, he became a certified financial planner.

His obituary, published in the Democrat and Chronicle, describes him as a devoted, supportive, loving husband and brother” who was married to his wife Joyce for 42 years before her death. "He had many friends, loved to golf and was active in his church." He is survived by his wife Alma Stansfield, sister Nancy Wienecke, brother Dr. John W. Mills and many nieces and nephews. He was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana, Pa.
