Lunch and Learn with Public Safety

In light of recent events that have occurred across our nation, the Department of Public Safety would like to make you aware of information and available resources to help keep you safe while on campus and elsewhere.

First and foremost, please know that our Campus Peace Officers are highly trained and prepared to respond to any critical incident or crises which may occur. MCC’s Campus Peace Officers attend the same basic academy training and regular in-service training as our law enforcement colleagues who work in area municipal police agencies. We are the campus community’s first responders and work closely with the Brighton and Rochester Police Departments to provide a comprehensive response to critical incidents which may occur on any of our campuses. Campus Peace officers are armed and will work as a team with officers from other responding agencies.

Although the Department of Public Safety’s administrative offices are located in Building 21, Campus Peace Officers and Guards are deployed throughout the Brighton and Damon City Campuses as well as periodically at the Applied Technologies Center. This allows our staff to quickly respond to situations and provide necessary resources.

The Public Safety website (https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/pstd/) offers a number of resources to assist students, faculty and staff in the area of emergency preparedness and active threats. Please take a few minutes to view the “Lockdown Training” and “Run, Hide, Fight” videos. Both provide sound advice and practical steps to take should one of these unlikely situations occur at MCC. Our website also provides helpful response guides as well as information on the College’s emergency plans and critical incident management training.

The Public Safety team is pleased to offer “lunch and learn” sessions designed to provide the campus community with additional information regarding emergency preparedness, public safety training, and a Q&A session for any concerns which you may have. We invite you to attend one of two sessions currently scheduled during College Hour as follows:

- Tuesday, December 6 – Brighton Campus, Room 3-209 (Empire Room)
- Monday, December 12 – Damon City Campus, Room 4-153

We look forward to seeing you there. However, if you cannot attend, please do not hesitate to contact me at extension 2926 or via e-mail at cdisalvo@monroecc.edu if you have any questions or concerns regarding the College’s response to critical incidents.
